Phillip Millar – New Zealand
Phillip has been immersed in the Hairdressing Industry as a qualified Men’s and Women’s Hairdresser, both as a multiple salon owner and trainer, and is now in his 50th year of practise.
During this time Phillip has committed to many roles both regionally and nationally within the New Zealand Hairdressing Industry.
He has never shirked from leadership roles and has picked up the baton when many others have declined; always with a view to ‘what’s best for the industry?’ This includes board membership and time served as the Chairperson of the New Zealand Hair and Beauty Industry Training Organisation (HITO) Board.
Phillip is truly passionate about the hairdressing industry and believes in currency and high standards of training, together with a pathway for on-going education that is readily available and offered to all trainees within the industry.
More recently his focus has been on Qualification by Experience or ‘Q by E’ (as it is commonly called), for the many skilled operators who could well benefit by the recognition of their skills. This is a legitimate pathway to becoming qualified, established by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority, the New Zealand government’s accrediting body.
Phillip is passionate, dedicated and proactive, with a strong sense of ethics and due process.
Phillip is not a person to look backward, rather he recognises that this a changing world and there is both a desire and a strong need to be open to change, progressive in one’s thinking for what is in the interests of the Hair and Beauty Industry, and what best serves the future of its membership.
Phillip began his working life with a university degree in ‘Wool’. It was the introduction to the fashion world of ‘Crimplene’ (and thoughts this might have led to the demise of wool) that resulted in him changing career paths – a decision he has never regretted.
He and his partner took their passion and skills to salon ownership in their early 20’s. Multiple salons with a staff of more than 80 was the challenge of the day. History has more recently seen them with sole ownership of their present salon for more than 20 years.
Phillip is a valued assessor and a moderator, as committed and passionate about these responsibilities as he was at the outset. He is at the coalface of the Industry, and knows first-hand that the decisions of today affect the future of our Industry tomorrow.

Ms. Sompetch Srichaiyo – Thailand
Director of Narong Hair Design International School (Anthony Hair Academy Thailand)
Professional Hair Stylist and Manager of Hair Design Academy
Ms. Sompetch Srichaiyo began her career as a professional hairdresser by studying at Ruengrit Hairdressing Salon located at Siam Square.. Later on, she had an opportunity to open her own beauty salon under the name of ANTHONY HAIR also at Siam Square which serves high-end customers.
As the business grows, she extended her fortune to reach out middle and low market segments. Beginning with the opening of the Narong Hair Design International School which is located just opposite Thammasat University, Rangsit Campus. Later, she expanded 3 more branches, namely at the Thai market, Sriracha and Sahaphat,. These branches focused on professional training which eventually became the turning point of starting a franchise in the name of Narong Beauty school. The main reason for entering the realm of franchising is the fact that through relentless teaching and training for almost 7 years, she noticed that many students who have graduated from her schools, did not know how to start a business, how to identify the best location as well as where to buy all the needed products. The majority of the students who come to train and study want to go out on their own by becoming a freelancer or entrepreneur by starting their own business rather being an employee. In Thailand, it is rather challenging to become successful in beauty industry.
Ms. Sompetch Srichaiyo has participated in many working groups and committees in developing National Occupational Standards for Hairdressing and Beauty with the government agencies, namely Department of Skill Development, Ministry of Labour and Thailand Professional Qualification Institute (Public organization). Considered as nation’s premiere assessment center for hairdressing and beauty professionals, Anthony Hair was accredited and certified by Thailand Professional Qualification Institute (Public organizations) for its quality assurance system under ISO/IEC 17024 standard.
